Coil, sheet, plate, bar and section are received, stacked and issued to the shop as jobs are released. Small components are fed forward from bulk storage rather than carried by hand.

Material is cut to length and pressed, bent or formed into shape. Forming lines are fed and discharged on conveyors, and cutting fume is drawn off at source.

Turning, milling, drilling and grinding bring the part to its finished dimensions. Dry machining and grinding release fine metallic dust, which is captured at the machine.

Components are annealed, normalised, hardened or tempered in a furnace and then cooled in a controlled way. Furnace flue gas and radiated heat are taken away from the treatment bay.

Scale, oil and machining residue are removed in acid or alkaline baths, then the parts are rinsed and dried. Acid mist from the pickling line is scrubbed before the air is released.

Turnings, offcuts and rejected parts are collected from under the machines and moved to the scrap yard. Ferrous and non-ferrous scrap are separated and reduced so the material can be sold or recharged.
